Have I Mentioned How Much I Love Floor Plans?

Since I can't do much rearranging in my tiny apartment without giving up an entire weekend and ending up frustrated and exhausted, floor plans are my knight in shining armor. :)

Not only is it a great way to visualize your layout ideas, but it's also a good way getting all of those "what ifs" out of the way. Like, what I moved the couch against the wall? Or what if I swapped the bedroom and the living room? Or what if I put my desk in the bathroom? ... What? It's not like I ACTUALLY did that, it's just a floor plan. :P

That's the beauty of it all, if my grand idea of putting the desk in the bathroom or re-arranging my "living area" doesn't work out, oh well! No big deal, just click and drag all the pieces back to where they were before. No heavy lifting required!
It's a nice way to step away from the reality of a tiny apartment, and just look at it on paper screen.

This was my great idea for trying to open up my space:
You Can Never Have Too Many Floorplans! - Version 1

Not bad, but it seems awkward to me and I don't think I would like have the bed and the chaise along the same wall like that. And really? You can only open up ~150sq feet so much. :)

This is more along the lines of what my studio will end up looking like.

You Can Never Have Too Many Floorplans! - Version 2

It's already close to this point, the furniture is in that arrangement, I just need to get rid of those outbox pieces so I can put in my new, small space friendly pieces!

And if you're curious, I've been using icovia.com for a while to put together my floor plan, instead of drawing it by hand or having to mess around in Photoshop or Illustrator (although if you have CAD software and know how to use it, you should use it!). They have a pretty decent trial version of their planner, so you can try it out if you're not sure you want to buy it.
I've been playing around with their new 5.0 version and the more I use it, the more I love it. :) And I believe EQ3 even uses the space planner on their website, so you can see how their furniture would fit into your space, if you were looking to buy something from them. I'm hoping that places like C&B, CB2, West Elm, and IKEA will follow along soon... it'll make shopping for furniture so much easier!
